Newsom is a fighter and he’s ready for war…

“The new litigation fund will help safeguard critical funding for disaster relief, health care, and other vital services that millions of Californians depend on daily,” Newsom wrote in his proposal.

He explained that California will “defend against unlawful federal actions that could jeopardize not only tangible resources and the state’s economy” as well as reproductive and civil rights.

Newsom’s announcement rang in the first day of a special session of the California legislature specifically geared towards preparing the overwhelmingly blue state for Trump’s second term.

If the legislature approves the measure, the California Department of Justice and state agencies would be able to use the additional funding to pay for costly court battles on the aforementioned key areas.

The federal government is a juggernaut and without this funding, California may struggle to put out fires on numerous fronts.

For context, the state spent $42 million supporting legal fights in Trump’s first term and filed over 120 lawsuits challenging the far-right administration.

Governor Newsom’s proactiveness should be celebrated and replicated by other Democratic states.

Now is not the time to lie down and accept defeat. Now is the time to fight!
